Rep Power: 2 | MkIII Hubs/Wire Wheels Hi
I'm building a MkIII and want to find out what the original wire wheels / hubs were based on (Jaguar??) and any suggestions where I could source them from as opposed to getting them custom built for the cost of one arm and one leg! All thoughts welcome!
Thanks
Paul |

Rep Power: 2 | Re: MkIII Hubs/Wire Wheels I was at Goodwood a while back and one of the original cars ( 1001 I think ) had the wheels off and the hub was designed for both spline and peg drive or to put it another way it was a splined hub with peg drive pins. I was told this was standard. |

I have a 1967 road test article on a Mk III which lists the wheels as Borrani knock-off wire wheels, front 6 1/2 L x 15-in. and rear 8 L x 15-in.
This doesn't really help you, as I don't know if Borrani are still around. However, some of the replicas around (eg. GTD) have been built with wire wheels so there should be some members who can advise on their source (may have been Frank's contact, posted above).
Cheers,
Dalton |

Search for his name in the user section and send him a PM

Rep Power: 2 | Re: MkIII Hubs/Wire Wheels Thanks all for responses - I've found a supplier of the Borrani wheels (Specialised Automobile Services in Macclesfield - they're talking £670/wheel) as well as Hawk Cars for the Cobra replica ones that Frank mentioned above. Hub adaptors and potential offset problems will be the next challenge! |

Paul | PAUL: I have the spline/pin drive hubs on my original GT40 #P1040, and also a set of original Borrani wire wheels of the proper sizes. PM me if you want more details.

Could you post some pics of your car. I'm sure that many forum members would like to see them. I have only ever seen the Ford heritage car and would be very interested in any pics of the very few Mk3s in existence.
Thanks

Mike | Sorry, but my #P1040 is a Mk I Race Coupe, not a Mk III. Why it wound up with the splined/pin drive hubs I don't know, but likely they were a result of a less-than-careful rebuild of the car in the mid 1970s.

Rep Power: 5 | Re: MkIII Hubs/Wire Wheels Thanks Don, I didn't realise that your car was a Mk1. You are a lucky man all the same! Could you post pics of your pin/slined hubs for Paul.
Thanks
