Wheel Finishes

Guys,

Trying to find out what the "typical" wheel finish/color for the Halibrand style wheel had back in the 60's (GT/Cobra etc)? I thought I had read on here that the original wheels were made from Magnesium and so would they have just left them as is and not painted? I honestly can't tell from my Essex Wire reference pics, some look like the wheel is Black (maybe brake dust) and others look Mag?

I love the detail in my Image Halibrand's but the Black finish hides all of it (guess that's OK for brake dust!) but I am thinking of going the route of the Magnesium color if I am correct and can find a decent way to paint/coat them?

Suggestions?

Cheers

Chris

Why not polish them?

Re: Wheel Finishes

Have the wheels bead blasted, that gives them that "rough" look, and then dust them in that greenish/gold color?
