Rep Power: 15 | Re: Original Steering Rack? Angle of the mounting bracket holes reletive to the angle of the steering shaft? Looks like they would be around 45 degrees off the surface of the chassis where they bolt up.

Rep Power: 5 | Re: Original Steering Rack? I know thats been done but have you ever compared the internals of the MGB to the original CAM GEAR parts as used in the GT40's. Are the bearings and shafts the same size? I thought about doing that too but was concerned about the strength of the MGB parts as they were on lighter - smaller cars with alot less tire. Whats your thoughts? |

Rep Power: 10 | Re: Original Steering Rack? I am not anticipating any problems, yes it is not as industrial as the original spec parts but I dont plan on hammering it around Le Mans flat out for 24 hours straight. Also after inspecting the internals last night its a basic design but sturdy. Now I need to find a good machine shop.
Will update on progress.

Rep Power: 5 | Re: Original Steering Rack? What ratio are the mgb internals? The original cars had 3 different ratios 2 for different tracks and 1 for the MK3 street cars. Most all original race cars used the green stripe paint code as in my pics. This a NOS original I just found and is very quick. I will check the ratio when I get a few minutes to spare. |
