A tunnel question

I've noticed on several builds. That the tunnel for the gear shift & hoses? Just stops about the dash bulk head. Why? It seems to me that if it was brought all the way to the front bulk head & tied in. It would act as a "back bone" & add torsional & longitudinal strength instead of just being an accessory tunnel. Much like the Lotus Europa & Elan "back bone" chassis.

Extending the tunnel to the front of the footbox also helps to keep the passengers feet out of the drivers way !!

The ERA's tunnel contains the feed/return tubes for the radiator, so it goes all the way from the front to the slanted bulkhead behind the seats. The shift linkage (on the LHD cars) mounts on the top.

SPF tunnel goes all the way from front to rear bulkheads. Of course it's a copy of the original MkI or II. I believe Mk III had no tunnel.

I think Mike might be looking at mainly space frame cars and some non-GT40 to find the tunnel ending at that point. Shifter is not in tunnel of most GT40.
