CV axle to Universal cross

Gentleman : I am at the point of having to weld up the Audi Trans inboard CV joints axles to the outboard universal cross joints. Is there any special consideration for the relationship of placement to each other as in the phase of such? Any infomation would be greatly appreciated. Steve

There is no "best" orientation, since you're going from a constant velocity joint to one with cyclical speed variations. It will work, but expect to replace the joints fairly often, and there may be some vibration associated with the conflict. Try to keep the shafts as horizontal as possible at static ride height or with the rear suspension compressed an extra 1/2".

Steve,

The way we do it with Porsche transaxles it to bolt an adapter to the CV flange. Then a universal flange gets bolted to the adapter. The U-joint flange covers all but two of the bolts into the CV flange. This way you have inner and outer U-joints rather than a mix. Any good drive shaft shop can make up the half shafts for you and any good machine shop should be able to make the adapter.

Or for about $1,500, you can have these people build your custom axle's from scratch, with CV's at both ends.

and they are on your end of the country, east coast. Does anyone know a place like this on the west coast? Shipping for two axles across the country isn't going to be cheap.
