Reversing a reverse gate !

I Have a cable change on my GTD. I'm quite happy with it apart from the reverse gate, it's driving me bannanas ! I'm sure it's only a matter of time before I go to shift up, and shift down instead, resulting in a big BANG!
I understand it MAY be possible to reverse the gate on a cable shift to get the gate the right way round. Has anybody done this. I haven't taken my car to bits yet to have a look if it's possible, so any advice/pictures etc would be most helpful.
Thanks
Simon
ps, by the way, thanks to everybody who has answered my endless questions so far, I hope I will be able to put something back into the forum when I get a little more experienced.
