can someone identify this 302 water pump?

I'd like to replace this water pump with an aluminium equivalent. Looking in the summit catalog there are many different types of water pump available.

Is this a left or right hand ? is it short or long?? could someone help me choose a suitable replacement please ?

Any info greatly appreciated!

That's an interesting looking thermostat housing.
Can we get a better look? Who made it?
Thx

GTD supplied those housings with there deluxe kits. They are a fabricated unit.

Re: can someone identify this 302 water pump?

I used a Edelbrock alum Victor series that I got from jegs USA 1-800-345-4545, www.jegs.com
. Your current setup looks the same as mine with a passenger side inlet. Remember I have a Left Hand drive USA side car. Jeggs part number for a passenger side inlet alum edelbrock waterpump is 350-8841 $156.99 USD. Fits all 289,302.

This is a good part with a ball bearing suported shaft and a computer designed impeller. Not cheap but really well made.

Re: can someone identify this 302 water pump?

Oh.... I think that some of the early mustangs used a passenger side(USA) inlet like we need in our GTD's. I went out and looked at the box and it is a edelbrock part # 8841.

I don't believe this comes in more than 1 lenght but it fits in my GTD spot fine. I'm not sure about the belt alinement on your car because I built my accessory drive brackets myself. You might end up shimming the pulley. Why not go down to the parts house and measure the lenght of the pump. Mounting to timming chain cover surface to pully mounting surface. Compair to yours.

I went with the Ford Racing "Street Rod" water pump. It is 1 5/8" shorter then stock and turns CW.

Re: can someone identify this 302 water pump?

Thanks everyone for the info. As I understand it, I need a passenger side inlet (USA) in ally. Howard thanks for the part no. I'll check it out.

Gary, you're pump wouldn't fit in a (my) GTD with air-con, as the inlet would be in the way of the compressor.

Here's a better pic of the pump with the pulley removed....

MikeDD,

Here's a better pic of that thermostat housing. It suits the way the pipes are laid out in the GTD.

Frank, you might be wrong on that one! ;-) It has a Ford emblem stamped into the casting there in the picture above. R

Ron, No, I meant that the Eidelbrock unit from my supplier is the most sensible direct replacement for the unit in the pics, Frank

Re: can someone identify this 302 water pump?

Gotcha! Those are good pumps although the ford pieces can be made even better by welding a backing plate on the impeller if it doesn't have it.

Re: can someone identify this 302 water pump?

Hi Julian, That pump looks like the ones used on 1965/66 Mustangs with 289 engines (passenger side pipe in). I believe it was on that side to clear the, then low mounted, power steering unit(which was mounted on the Drivers side). I'm sure all of the current pump mfg's will make a replacement Ali unit.

cheers

Jools,

Moroso also makes an Aluminum one (Jegs) that is set up for 65/66 mustangs. That is what I use on mine. see photo.
