Crossover exhaust system

The exhaust on my car is the standard (non crossover) system. Speaking to several people, it seems a crossover system is much quieter?? (just what I've been told)
Does this only work if the two "outlets" go into separate exhaust boxes?
Is re-engineering my system into a crossover system worth the hassle or would it be cheaper just to buy a complete new system?
Thanks
Simon

Re: Crossover exhaust system

Simon,
IMHO its all a matter of the sound that they produce assuming the crossovers are using 2 silencers.I was told
at Tony Law (Leeds) that with the crossovers and 2 silencers each silencer emits alternately. I think they look sexier as well.

Re: Crossover exhaust system

David is right, but you'll also gain a few BHP in the process.
