Re: Need help decoding engine casting numbers

Oh, that's no good.

C9OE = 1969
There should be a date code just above this casting code, which would give the actual date.

Could be a 351W (though there should be other ways to tell this) - I have one book that shows C9OE-B as a valid 351W casting code. Can't find C9OE-C though (the 6015 just means "engine block").

The 7105 may be an assembly date if it's just below the distributor. I believe that would mean week 5 of 1971, i.e. the first week in February.

Re: Need help decoding engine casting numbers

No, wait - I just looked at my 66 block, and the assembly code follows the standard Ford date code format. 6B23 = Feb 23, 1966, so I have no idea what the 7105 would mean. Now if it were an integrated circuit...

Re: Need help decoding engine casting numbers

Dave,

It appears to be a 302 out of a 1969 fairlane or torino.

Check out this thread: thread from Mustang Forums on this casting number

Re: Need help decoding engine casting numbers

Thanks guys,

I thought it was a 302 when I saw that number, but since it came out of my son's 66 mustang (the guy he bought it from swore it was the "original engine"!!) I was beginning to doubt myself.

So, now I have a 302 to look at rebuilding instead of a 289!

cheers
