Starter identification, urgent

I hope somebody is able to help.
The starter on my new GTD doesnt seem to want to work. There is power getting to it, and I have taken it off and checked it with the battery connected directly to it andit does not work.
Could somebody identify it for me so I don't order the wrong one please
Thank you.

Cobra John,

I took my dead GTD Bosch starter to a certified Bosch Starter repair service who told me that his books had no exact listing for the numbers on the starter. So he rebuilt it. May be your best bet.

Re: Starter identification, urgent

I would be following Andy's advice and getting that unit rebuilt. Most Auto Electrician's will be able to do it. Starter motors can be rebuilt quite easily and no risk of replacement starter not fitting, being wound the wrong way etc etc. Plus you will be able to investigate why it failed and try to aleviate the problem, like heat shielding, sourcing a higher output unit, so the replacement does not fail prematurely.

JOhn,
Have you joined the GT40 Enthusiasts Club yet? If so, check out the last issue, where we have a deal on starter motors. Speak to Tony Hunt, our membership secretary, he has one fitted to his GTD.

Re: Starter identification, urgent

I spent weeks trying to find out what car mine was orginal equipment on. I never did figure it out. Believe me I took that thing to every starter shop in the Bay Area. Nobody could match up the numbers. The all said they could rebuilt it.

Look for a rebuild shop that can rewind it so it has more hp. Then simply rebuild it.

Or... you can spend hundreds of dollars on a gear reduction starter and adapter plate.
