I just received my GT40 replica oil pan from Armando's. It's a really nice pice. Almost a work of art. I have a question though. There is a strange brass fitting on the side. Anyone have an idea what it's for?

Never mind. I figured it out. It came with a 6-8" tube and it's to be used for a oil dipstick.

Seems you beat me to the punch on the car and now the oil pan! I have Armondo doing a dry sump for the motor, so I guess now he can finish it [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]
I have had other say good things about his work and went with him as well...

Can do Dave, but it might be a few days. I will have to charge my digital camera.
Sandy-
I received the pan in a virgin state - i.e. no paint or plating. I am going to see if I can polish the s*it out of it to make it look like chrome.

Did you get the steel or aluminum pan? I had originally ordered an aluminum GT40 pan (Via Keith Craft) and then found out I needed to do a dry sump due to the crankshaft being used so had to change the order. If steel, will be a lot of work! Any thought about the ceremic silver coating, looks pretty good on headers, not sure how well it would be for a pan, but is looks not too bad, as does some of the powered coatings (and you can mask it easy so only the outside will get coated)...
Dave - As soon as the motor gets done (a couple of weeks I'm told) I'll get pictures. Armondo may have some pics for some of the pans on the site worth checking.

Well, it's definitely not aluminum. I tried a magnet last night and it barely stuck. I tried some Mother's polish on it and it started to look really nice. I ordered a bunch of polishing materials from Eastwood today to see if I can make this bad boy sine.

I ordered an original GT40 pan from Aviaid in steel after several makers advised against Aluminium as they often fail due to to cracking. | |

Hi Jimmy - I know the MDA chassis setup gets the engine/gearbox quite low (especially the ZF), how deep/volume size is the pan you purchased? I assume it fits?

Chris,
I bought the Aviaid pan and the chassis was later cross braced to suit it.
It is the original pattern GT40 pan with baffles and traps. 14" Long X 11.5" Wide X 6.5" Deep and takes about 8 Quarts from memory.
My ZF fit-up and the back of the car is built to the original geometry and dimensions and the pan fits perfectly. | |

I wasn't sure what they had on the site, so you are probabally correct. The pan should be in soon, I'll see if I can get some photos of it. For the regular pans (Non Dry sump) they looked very close to the Aviaid's.

Thanks Al that was exactly what I was looking for. Looks well baffled and I see it has a crank scraper in it as opossed to a windage tray. Don't know if it makes a difference or not. | |

I just got an Armond's deep sump road race pan for the mustang engine, very nicely done. Much better quality and price then the comparible pan from the 'A' company. Armondo is a definite recommend.

I recomended Armondo's Highly. Just recieved Custom size alum.Gt40 pan. Absoulutly fantastic. To bad nobody sees it!
