Red face Mystery port

Can any one tell me what the threaded port on the side of the Ford short water pump is? The port is located on the water pump just to the left of the oil pressure port in the block. As I was doing final assembly prior to dropping my motor in I noticed this port and can't remember what if anything was screwed in it.

Thanks Peter

Re: Mystery port

Is this the waterpump you have M8501-D50:

There are only 3 ports that I am aware of.

One of them is for the lower radiator hose and the other two are for heater and thermostat bypass hose connections.

If there is an additional port into the waterpump's impeller chamber, you could just plug it. If you want to use if for an alternate heater port you could do that as well..

Re: Mystery port

Big-Foot,
You are correct about the pump, I should have said Timeing Cover. The port is in the timeing cover that is needed for the short pump.

Smile Re: Mystery port

Is it a port or just a mount lug for a crank trigger pickup? I have a cover down in the shop, will check later.
