Re: Engine 2 - Ouch!

Not a good time. It lloks like an oiling and line bore issue.

Wink Re: Engine 2 - Ouch!

The damage on the rod journal is after the fact when the bearing insert has turned in the rod, What actually caused this to happen is conjecture.
Assume everything was normal prior to things turning to custard then it appears that some crap has been introduced into the oil system due to the heavy scouring of the lower main bearing inserts.Could be lifter/lobe has destroyed itself - Oil Cooler replaced that had not been cleaned correctly - Oil filter that has been dropped prior to fitment which can cause element to be out of position in canister - Bottom line is that somehow some foreign material caused that damage to the lower main shells and in order to get there had to either come thru or bypass the filter element, what led up to that point is anyones guess, if its a lobe or lifter problem then enough material has to be pumped into the filter to partially block it and cause the bypass plate to open, If its an oil surge problem then sufficient bearing material has to be removed and cause the same thing.
I could add a comment about the mechanical sensitivity of the driver to allow things to progress to this point, it looks like one of those classic-- I will do another lap and see if it gets better--situations.

Re: Engine 2 - Ouch!

Jac Mac -

Great synopsis and after some more measurements/inspection, replacement crank/rod(s) etc will be sourced to effect a repair.

Oh and a LOT of cleaning/flushing...
