Which Ford Engine Blue?

Hi Guys,
a quick originality question for you

ENGINE ENAMEL-POR-15 Inc.

POR-15 list 3 different blues for Ford on their engine enamel page. Which is closest to that used by Ford Racing? Or are all 3 a bit off the mark?

Re: Which Ford Engine Blue?

Factory engine long-blocks, which included block, intake manifold, heads, and oil pan, were painted Ford Blue from 1966 onwards - Duplicolor's Dark Ford Blue (1606) is one brand.

I'm unsure if the color changed for the racing programs.

Re: Which Ford Engine Blue?

None are exact....and GT40 didn't have the engine painted blue, the painted blocks/heads were black. "Corporate Blue" became standard in 1966, the production GTs used engines produced before that color was used across the board.

Re: Which Ford Engine Blue?

One easy answer in the build is worth it's weight n gold

As I'm building a MK.II big block replica of a 1966 Mk.IIA would this be black or blue?? Just as a double check.

Many thanks

Even those were black.

Re: Which Ford Engine Blue?

I think a lot of people know this but...

Ford used two blues,

I think the last year for Black was 1965, one blue lasted only one year 1966, then a darker blue was used from 67 on.

I do not know if the GT40s used blue after 1965, (forum members above this post indicated black only) If the engines were black for all GT40s over the years, I still suspect that a number of GT40s ended up with blue engines when service blocks were purchased and put in over the years. I have a 427 service block that sat in 1031 for a number of years and it was the 67' on blue.

The restoration picture of the engine from the link below looks like they painted the engine the 67' and later blue.
