LS1 ignition timing??

Hi all -

A friend with a Lola T70 spyder rep is having a few difficulties with the timing on it's LS1 motor installed so whilst not GT40 - I figured one of you might be able to help/advise.

His motor has an edlbrock cam with a mild 220/220 .510 profile and produced 400HP at the hubs on a dyno. However, it pings quite badly higher up the range. He has an MSD 6010 unit and is running UK 95 octane fuel.

Anyone got any thoughts on the timing requirements? - I know little of LSx technology and whilst each engine is different, I have have heard that they don't like much ignition WOT...

Over to you chaps....

Is that a SBC?

10-12 initial 34-36 deg total all in by 3k I would have thought as a starting point much like any V8. I ran Moroso octane booster + unleaded pump gas without problems in my 11:1 cr SBC with around 550 hp, but I think the RON was higher than 95.

Does the motor run hot?

I would be surprised if those motors require more than 32° total to make good power, maybe even as low as 28/30°, given the plug location/compact chamber/smaller bore etc.
