Inlet Manifold connections

Hi all,
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com<img src=" /><o:p></o:p>
Now I’ve decided on what induction system to go for, I need some advice/confirmation on what the coolant connectors are for on this Inglese 302 IDA inlet manifold. <o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
I presume the 2 bosses on the top are for the heater feed & temp sensor (I presume the heater feed is the higher boss). <o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
The aftermarket thermostat cover I purchased (which I probably won’t use, as it points in the wrong direction) has a separate bleed. Does this go to the header tank?<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
I’ve also seen various threads about putting separate air bleed lines on these engines back to the header tank. Although this has been on the Holley/Edelbrock type set-ups, I was wondering whether I need to consider it for this type of manifold. The engine in my project is installed horizontal to the ground, if this makes any difference.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
Regards<o:p></o:p>
Andy<o:p></o:p>

Re: Inlet Manifold connections

Hi Andy
The small connection boss on your pictured thermo housing is for the by pass hose down to the water pump (enables circulation whilst thermostat is closed). I highly reccomend you fit a bleed pipe from the highest wet point on your engine( on a 40 usually on the top side of the top hose just before it dives downwards on route to the rad) back to a point above your water level in the header tank.
For good measure on the last 40 I restored I also put a bleed on the heater feed as on installation this ended up above the top hose, once filled with coolant the system will self bleed and air locks should not be a problem.
cheers
john

Re: Inlet Manifold connections

Andy,

You should have two temp senders in the manifold, one for the EFI and one for the instrument panel. Thats how the EFI system I have worked on is set up.
