Oil Sump Gasket

Need some advice (again) from more experienced builders.

When rebuilding the engine the other week, I had a moment and ended up taking the sump off, as in a moment of self-induced panic, I thought I hadn't done something (but had).

Instead of the standard rubber/cork 4 piece seal, I have bought a one piece seal. A Mr Gasket 6683. Do you still apply sealant, or do you just use as is? It's not clear from the destructions. Thanks

Brett

Do all your parts come with 'destructions?:)
You should only require a dab of sealant at the 4 points that locate in the recess beside rear main cap and each similar point in the timing cover , plus a dab at the timing cover/block interface. That Mr G has eyelets at each bolt so its important to ensure that both side rails of the pan are as flat as possible with no distortion at bolt holes as with this gasket the bolts will be tight against the eyelet- designed to prevent over tightening. Make sure both block and pan are dry- no oil residue.
