For the R-21 transaxle installation in my GTD I am using the modified 121 tooth flywheel along with an AP Racing clutch and cover set. Has anyone had clearance issues between the bolts holding the flywheel to the crank and the friction plate? My engine is in the que to be assembled during the first week of June and I did not spec those bolts. If I can head off a potetntial now it would be advantageous.
As you will be getting all the rotating assembly balanced together, you are aren't you, I am sure any fitment issues will be sorted at that point. As a point of information, my V6 flywheel needed to have 165 grams removed to ballance it. That is a LOT. I have a reworked, centerforce, renault clutch in mine and I have no misfit problems. Works good too.
Yes, we are doing the whole rotaing assembly, but I was worried about incurring an "oh-oh" and having to deal with schedule slip or increased expense due to requiring specialized fasteners or more machine work.
I used the Ford oem flywheel to crank bolts without problem. These are the ones that Ford uses with all their 289, 302, 5.0, 351 motors. If I can come up with a FMC part number I will post it for you.
Just make sure the springs in the friction plate face the rear of the car and not the front! ARP do a nice set of flywheel bolts and remember to use a sealant on them as otherwise oil can leak out the sump.
