Audi 016 adapter plate HELP

Can someone tell me how different the flywheel and cluth is on a 4.6 mod motor compared to a 302 that is typically used for a GT40? What flywheel and cluth is used in a 302 with a 016 and is the 016 and 01E using the same bolt pattern? Lastly does anyone have a pic of the selector set up on the box for a right hand drive?

Cheers Steve

Re: Audi 016 adapter plate HELP

I just noticed that you were asking about the flywheel bolt pattern, not the bellhousing, but I figured I'd leave my post here anyway...

Hi Steve,

This depends on the mod motor block type in question. I believe that there are three main variants with respect to bellhousing bolt pattern: FWD Lincoln (this fits nothing we want), AOD equipped mustangs (these are from the initial mustang change over to the Mod Motor) which would fit your application, and the current version. The SHM 4.6 book covers this in good detail.

The SHM book is available from Amazon: "How to Build Max Performance 4.6 Liter Ford Engines"

Regards,

Al H.

Re: Audi 016 adapter plate HELP

Al H,
What i need to know is what does everyone use currently for a flywheel with the 302 motor with an Audi box, and does the 4.6 cobra motor have the same bolt pattern on the crank for the flywheel. If so i would then use what eveyone else is currently using.

It requires a custom flywheel. Kennedy makes them for there adaptor kit or you can work out the dimensions your self and have a machine shop make one. It will need to be balanced to match your engine. The Kennedy flywheel uses the Audi clutch. They offer a higher force pressure plate also.

Kennedy's kit is for 289/302/351 family.
Doubt the mod motor pattern is the same...engine or flywheel

Re: Audi 016 adapter plate HELP

If the flywheel fits inside the 016 bell housing then all i have to do is ask for them to drill the crank mounting hole to suit the mod motor? It sounds simple to me i bet its not!

Re: Audi 016 adapter plate HELP

YOU MUST BALLANCE FLYHEEL AND CLUTCH TO MOTOR!!!

If you have a flywheel that came with the mod motor AND was ballanced orginally with the mod motor then you can use the orginal flywheel as a reference to "mirror" ballance your new redrilled flywheel and clutch.

This is a process that sets up the ballance machine to use your orginal flywheel's ballance setting as the ballance standard for the new flywheel thus making them the same.

Some people will tell you that to do it "right" you must take apart the engine and reballance the rotating assembly again with the new flywheel. This is correct in theory but believe me the "mirror" way is done all the time. If the orginal flywheel "reference flywheel" is correct then the "new flywheel" will be OK also.

Whatever you do, the flywheel must be ballanced to the motor after you have redrilled for mounting holes, resurfaced or pressed on a new starter ringgear. Do the clutch pressure plate and all its mounting hardware at the same time.

Re: Audi 016 adapter plate HELP

You will need a round adapter that presses into the bushing hole in the end of the crank. It is longer that the orginal bushing and will extend the hole for the roller bearing out towards the input shaft the same distance as the thicknes of the adapter plate.

At least this is the way we do it on GTD's.

Whoever has the adapter plate should be able to help with the bushing adapter.

Call Kennedy and talk it over with them. They will be able to help.
