Re: steering column pictures

Chris,

If your build is for a SVA tested vehicle be very wary about building your own column. Most stations will only accept production type columns now.

Graham.

Re: steering column pictures

Chris,

I may be able to get some pics for you.

I can take some pics from the steering wheel down forward to the first universal joint which is close to the brake pedal. At that point it disappears into a covered area where the rack & pinion is mounted.

Do you think that will help?

the car will be for sva what i ment is i'm trying to identifie whos column a tornado uses so i can source one or find an effective replacement
tim pictures from the column down would be fantastic the rack end is no problem as a shortended cortina mk1v steering rach is the perfect fit along with a mk111 fiesta steering rack couplling acting as a uj just not sure if i,m going to need two ujs and the type of steel column used

Re: steering column pictures

hi paul
very impressed with the build so far yep purchased a rack from one of our suppliers stripped it down to is bare essentials cut the outer body and removed 80mm from the centre section then resleved it welded it back up etc
the inner rack arm again had one end shortened 80mm and new thread cut on the end when i get home from work tonight i will post a couple of pictures the rack ends up the same length overall as a mk11 escort but the pinion comes out at the correct angle to go through the bulk head just need to organise some brackets to hold the rack to the chassis
