Exhaust Manufacturer?

Has anyone had dealings with Simpson Race Exhausts?

See http://www.simpsonraceexhausts.com/index.htm

They say they manufacture for Lola

I have e mailed and asked if they would do GT40 headers and will keep everyone posted

Re: Exhaust Manufacturer?

Ian,
I had some talks with Kirk racing produsts here in the states. Met them at Road Atlanta about a year ago. They do bolt in roll cages and headers. They claimed they would do the cross overs for about ~ $1000 U S. They don't hav a jig that I know of.They wanted me to bring my car to them and would build the jigs etc. They dropped the ball in not keeping in touch with me to setup the date and I moved on to other things in the build. They are located in Mount Olive Alabama. I kknow this is a bit far, but $2500 UK seems a little steep to me. I did look at their site and they are impressive. I bet with dimensional info they could come up with something. Here is their contact info if interested:

Re: Exhaust Manufacturer?

Bill

Thanks for the info - yes too steep and outside my price range.

But being the "Lola" supplier opened my eyes.

I have had a couple of leeds given to me for UK suppliers and I'll follow them up. Seems about £1200 in stailless is about as cheap as they get over here!

I'll post my findings (Even though I am using a Range Rover 3.9Efi engine)

Re: Exhaust Manufacturer?

Hi Ian

Have you tried Hayward & Scott www.Hayward & Scot.com they've done systems for original cars and I think Ray Mallock may have used them for his RML GT40s. I'd be interested to see the prices, beautiful work...

About the cost of the headers, well we're back to volume (or lack thereof) and quality. For a really good working system with smooth flowing bends and decent collectors you have to be prepared for over 1500.usd minimum. Heck a pair of Burns Stainless Merge Collectors will set you back 800 bucks... so you gets what you pays for.

I still keep my rose coloured glasses handy though, so it would be nice to find a good set with muffler and heat sheild for something around 2000usd with a high end part under 3000

Cheers

Re: Exhaust Manufacturer?

Ian
Thanks for the lead - I have e mailed and asked for a quote - I will advise what I hear back.

Dave
Hugh quoted about £1000 for a Stainless cross over set with volume output as per customer request. Hnowing how low they want db at Goodwood etc this sounds like a good idea! He will confirm exact price once he has checked the cost of materials

Re: Exhaust Manufacturer?

In 2002 they cost £1500+VAT, I beleive its now well over the 2K mark plus VAT. They are not far from where I live.

Re: Exhaust Manufacturer?

Hi Ian

I think Frank Catt of Wealden Engineering knows a chap who will travel to you, tacks together onsite and then takes them away for finishing, give him a call - either way he may be able to help..

Remember too that a stainless system is generally about 3db louder than a mild steel one...If you think you'll be noisy and want to use it on circuit - better make sure first..

Re: Exhaust Manufacturer?

Ian (CANUK40)

From Hayward and Scott

To Ian

Thank you for your enquiry.

We have done lots of GT40's in the past, real ones and replicas.

We only use stainless steel.

We would need your car as no two cars are the same.

The price for a full cross over system, fully polished with separate silencers, heat shield etc will be £1,800 + VAT.

You can still have this ceramic coated if made in stainless.

Regards

Ian Reeve
Manager

That comes out as £2115 including VAT
