The rear suspension links do have some transverse adjustability that can be used in conjunction with wheel backspacing to get the wheels into the right position within the flares. Track width is increased with wider tires, which will tend to make the wide-bodied car understeer compared to a narrow-bodied car with otherwise identical suspension settings, so using Gulf flares will require a firmer rear anti-roll bar and/or firmer rear springs.
