Pop Out Window Hinge Orientation

Which way do the hinges go?

Version 1 - hinges parallel to the top and bottom

Version 2 - hinges perpendicular to the sides

Well, theoretically, to get them to swing open properly without binding, the axis of rotation for each hinge has to be in line (translation: in-line and perpendicular to the front side). There may be enough slop in the hinges to allow you to mount them without the axis of rotation (meaning, the line drawn through the hinge pins) exactly in line if it's displeasing to the eye.

This is completely unrelated to the axis of evil in which case you can do anything you want apparently.

Mine are fitted as the second example so that the two pivot pins face each other. The sliding fastener on the back edge of the window should be the other way round so that the locking button is on the fixed part of the window, not the hinged part.

Brian.

For goodness sake don't get them lined up with the axis of evil, or we Ozzies will be over there helping George W bomb the cr*p out of your GT40.

Having the two hinge axes in one straight line, as has been recommended, is kinematically correct.

+1. You want the hinges to rotate on exactly the same axis. You can position the slider at whatever height to make it look right.

Here's an original. Looks like the axis of evil...

At the risk of being flamed by Ron for thread-drift ( :) ), doesn't it seem like you should at least get a 30-day warranty when you spend $3,000,000 on a car? (see previous photo)
