Rep Power: 12 | Re: Pop Out Window Hinge Orientation I've always noticed them as parallel to the sides as in your example 1.

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Pop Out Window Hinge Orientation Well, theoretically, to get them to swing open properly without binding, the axis of rotation for each hinge has to be in line (translation: in-line and perpendicular to the front side). There may be enough slop in the hinges to allow you to mount them without the axis of rotation (meaning, the line drawn through the hinge pins) exactly in line if it's displeasing to the eye.
This is completely unrelated to the axis of evil in which case you can do anything you want apparently. |

Rep Power: 12 | Re: Pop Out Window Hinge Orientation Mine are fitted as the second example so that the two pivot pins face each other. The sliding fastener on the back edge of the window should be the other way round so that the locking button is on the fixed part of the window, not the hinged part.
Brian.

Having the two hinge axes in one straight line, as has been recommended, is kinematically correct.
