How to mount 6 pt seat belts

I ordered seat belts that have 2 submarine belts instead of one. Do they go between your legs or over the top?

Pegasus - Willans 6-Point Formula Car Harness w/ D-Ring Lap Belt - FIA

This is what they look like.

Re: How to mount 6 pt seat belts

In addition to the comment from Jac Mac, be sure you take plenty of time placing and adjusting those belts. And don't perform those adjustments in a pair of shorts or jeans or slacks -- do it using your driving suit, in the garage and at home, not for the first time at the track. There's nothing like the pressure of getting to pregrid...

You'll be surprised how many slightly different ways there are to route those belts through the folds in your suit. Several of 'em don't feel especially comfortable, unfortunately it isn't until that happens that will you become an expert at exactly how the nervous system in your body is wired.

The one place you don't want (and this from experience) to be the receipient of some 'negative feedback' is when you're on track... popping those belts at speed is something every racer would suggest you avoid, which brings to mind an event at Portland in the summer of '91, We'll save that story for another day.

Be safe out there,

T.

Re: How to mount 6 pt seat belts

Leading on from this, can I ask for advice on where to mount these straps to on the floor of the 40? The straps will go through the hole in the floor of the seat, and then where? Almost straight back and mount on the floor anywhere convenient? Or is there more to it?
Obviously, the floor would be strengthened locally wherever the mounting point ends up, but apart from heading backwards under the seat, does it matter about the direction and the distance?

You raise a very valid point Lee, and if your seats have provision for movement then the problem compounds. In this case Dean would be well advised to confer with Fran on this as its the RCR in question, just as each kit manufacturer should deal with each chassis application re mounting points. The reputable belt manufacturers give guidelines to angles etc and the FIA along with most sanctioning bodies have info on these as well. As you all have to pass tech if racing the car check on the rule book first to make sure the fitment complies.

Re: How to mount 6 pt seat belts

Here's how I did the crotch straps. I only use them with my track seat so they go with it when it comes out of the car. The seat itself isn't adjustable for and aft so the crotch straps remain correctly adjusted. The seat itself is very securely attached to the chassis with four 3/8 bolts

Dito on spending the time to adjust belts before you go to the track. Drive the car around for at least 30 mins to get a feel for them. Check out your ability to reach everything with them all tightened up. Fire pull, battery off switch, ignition switch, door release (this one is a stretch in my car). Even the peddles may be in a different place when you are all cinched up in your belts.

Get stuff like peddles, shifter, steering wheel, PERFECT before you go to the track.

Whatever you do don't violate the installation parameters provided by the belt manufacturer. Pay close attention to the webbing's angles from the mounting points to the points that they contact your body.
