Blending body panels?

I'm helping of buddy of mine with his Factory Five cobra and we are working on the body; filling it and sanding it smooth. Everything was going well until we got to the various doors of the car. The trunk seems to be the biggest problem; even though its about the right size, it doesn’t follow the contour of the car correctly and is probably over an inch to high in some spots. How do I blend this in with the rest of the body?

John, pictures would be helpful. Depending upon the locations, you can try heat with weight to try and lower or you might have to cut and re-glass parts in at the correct height and then blend the panels inside and out if necessary. Enjoy.

Re: Blending body panels?

Yeah, I was afraid of having to cut up and re-glass it. That might be the only way. Ill try to get a pic next time I’m over their. I have worked with fiberglass a lot in the past, but never ‘repaired’ anything with it like this before. Any web-resource recommendations?

Re: Blending body panels?

If it is as bad as you say call Factory Five. They would probably replace the bad panel.

Re: Blending body panels?

having done more than just a few of these cars I find over an Inch in contour difference excessive - matter of fact even in the worst of the glass from FFR I've had 3/8 that I had to work out of it...

I'd check in at ffcobra.com as Bill suggested and I would also place a call to FFR.. You are aware that FFR's have a different contour trunk from any other currently available Cobra Replica. It's know as the "Perky Butt" by most...

Re: Blending body panels?

I have had a couple of cobs, the latest from a company called Gardner Douglas.

Straight out of the mould, there are no alignment issues to be dealt with.

FF should never ship anything that needs that much work - they really ought to replace it with no argument.
