Speedometer cable?

I really wanting to fit a Smiths mechanical speedo to my car, but have been put off by comments about the reliability of the cable.

Has anybody got any first hand experience, good or bad?

Cheers,

Geoff.

Hi Geoff

I replaced the cable on my GTD nearly 2 years ago, i've had no problems with it. I got it from speedy cables. If you route it through the car with the largest possible radius in the turns, you should be ok.

I just recently converted my GTD to a GPS speedo. The cable when removed was in fine condition. It was installed in 1994 and has about 10,000 miles of use. I didn't like the needle jump at low speed with the cable plus it was about 10 plus miles per hour slow in its read out, hence the switch to GPS ( it is great).

Changed myne 5 years back and so far no problems.
I replaced it because the original broke at the place where you put it into the the gearbox.
Agree with Jason on the curve issue and also got it from Speedy Cables.
Good luck.
