Shifter position

For me there are several distinctive features to the Gt40, but one is the transmission selector being on the sill next to the door, not in a central transmission tunnel. I know this hinders entry and egress, but I want it in the car I will build.

So, what are the considerations?
- would I have to limit myself to certain kits or gearboxes?
- would the shift quality be worse or better?
- I plan to have a left hand drive car with the shifter on the left next to the door. This is because I am moving to Vancouver, but I'm used to shifting with my left hand being in the UK. I've only seen Rhd cars like this. Anyone got a car in that configuration?
- I want An open linkage, in other words no gaiter or gate covering the linkages. What are my options?

Our LHD cars have a lefthand shifter on the sill.

The linkage can be either open or covered.

Thanks

Andy
