How to flatten Raydyot mirrors

Hello folks,

I need your expertise with a pair of Raydyot mirrors I recently bought on ebay.

They have quite a few dents (which I knew before but they have been too affordable to let them go) and I'm know looking for a possibilty to remove the dents without loosing the "patina" of the finish.

I'm thinking of using a "Paintless Dent Removal System". I certainly would need to machine a supporting ring to be able to get the needed lever without deflexing the shape of the mirror (see attached sketch).

What are your toughts?

Is there a better / easier way?

Thanks for any help.

Markus

Re: How to flatten Raydyot mirrors

I made something similar to what you are proposing however I spun them in a lathe and used a wooden spoon lubricated with thread cutting lubricant "trefolex" in an aerosol can.

they are "egg shell thin" so be patient

Re: How to flatten Raydyot mirrors

I had the same issue with a pair i bought for my R Model GT350. I used the hardend steel rounded edge of a master lock, had the right amount of curve and allowed me to easily bend out the soft alloy on the raydyot.
