| Early style steering wheel boss Hi all
I am just about to order my steering parts from Tornado including the Steering wheel and boss.
I am not a fan of the standard pepsi style Ford GT boss that comes with the steering wheel and would like to change it to the early style boss as per the ones that Gelscoe make. It appears that the Tornado wheel and the Gelscoe boss are both predrilled so trying to buy a Gelscoe boss doesn't seem to be an option.
Gelscoe (early style) boss
Tornado wheel:
Thanks
Trev

| Re: Early style steering wheel boss One idea, do you think it would be possible to get a company to engrave the standard aluminium boss to copy the design and then get the boss anodised?

Trevor | Hi Trevor,
Just contact Moto-Lita on 01264 772811 and ask for their standard GT40 wheel. It comes in a choice of blue or black leather and costs about £140.
It's the only truly authentic item.

| Re: Early style steering wheel boss Hi Trevor,
You won't it find in the Moto Lita catalogue as it's a special.
It was a while back, but the contact at M-L is a chap named Simon Green. He was most helpful.
Give him a call and explain that you want an original pattern GT40 wheel, diameter and preferred colour of the leather trim.
Nice work on your car by the way.

| Re: Early style steering wheel boss Thanks guys will get on the phone now. Will I need to specify the diameter as I believe the original is a 15" wheel but most owners seem to prefer 14". Also will the size effect the fitment of the Gelscoe boss?

| Re: Early style steering wheel boss Ok guys still got an issue. If I buy the Moto Lita wheel Tornado say it won't fit the boss so this won't work with the rest of the Tornado steering assembly will it? If not what's the solution, do I stick with the Tornado wheel and try and make my own early style boss?
Thanks
Trevor

my reco go for a diameter around 320mm. I had a 360mm mounted and at my size ( 187 cm) it is to big to do quick turning action. changed back to the original 320mm RCR wheel which fits perfect and allows nice steering activities.

| Re: Early style steering wheel boss Ok guys
So I've changed my mind again and decided that I might get both the steering wheel and boss directly from Gelscoe. This saves me the issue of the boss not fitting the moto lita wheel.
So next question. If the wheel and boss come predrilled then they won't fit the standard Tornado steering assembly. Is the easiest way to get the wheel to fit by fitting an adapter plate? If so does anyone have a picture of a typical adapter plate and where does it fit in the steering assembly?
Also can anyone recommend someone that could produce an adapter plate?
Finally it's a long shot but if Gelscoe can provide the wheel and boss drilled to my specification what would I need to ask them as the picture on the website shows the wheel undrilled? Does anyone know what the spacing/arrangement is on the Tornado boss so I could get them to match it.
Apologies for all the stupid questions, I've not built anything like this before so don't have a clue how the steering assembly is put together.
Damn this steering wheel business is frying my brain!
Thanks again
Trev

| Re: Early style steering wheel boss Edited
Right, Gelscoe say they can provide the wheel and centre cap drilled to 78mm PCD as per the original cars.
So do I simply need to get an adapter plate made from 78mm PCD one side to whatever the tornado pattern is e.g. 70mm PCD the other?
If so can someone put me in touch with a company or individual that can help
Thanks

| Re: Early style steering wheel boss Trev, Firstly, what does the end of the steering column look like? If it has a flat plate to mount the wheel on, it’s a case of drilling the wheel to suit. As Tornado seem to use Mountney steering wheels, it should be OK for the proposed Gelscoe wheel<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com<img src=" /><o:p></o:p> <o:p></o:p> You’ll be able to drill the wheel yourself. I can get the wheel drilled to the same size no problem but the black centre cap is predrilled to 78mm PCD. So there needs to be an adapter somewhere for everything to fit together.
Should this be between the mounting plate and the wheel or between the wheel and the centre cap?
