Locating pins for upper rear clip

Gentlemen,
I have seen several techniques for locating and securing the top of the rear clip. I have also seen cars that seem to have nothing.

Any thoughts on the best way to pin down the top? Pins from below with external cotters? Pins in the clip that can be locked from the cabin?

Fran says he has a method of fixing the rear clip from the cabin such that you cannot shut the doors without pushing in the pins. Anyone have any thoughts or pictures on this?
Thanks!
-J.

On the SPF there is a single pin that is in the center of the rear clip; once down a pin is pushed through the hole and a ring clip snaps down.

It seems to work fine for me although if I had my preference, I like how others do it with a pin on each side of the clip and cotter keys through. I think it looks more racecar'ish.

Obviously my preference has nothing to do with functionality... The option you mentioned from Fran sounds nice.

Some Ultima owners attach a vertical plate to the front of the rear clip. The plate has a hole in it that a pin can slide into when inserted from inside the cabin. This requires a hole that is drilled through the rear bulkhead on an Ultima, not a big problem but may be a challenge on a GT 40 with a window behind your head.

GJ, we did the first install on GT40 for the manufacturers prior to coming on the market, Frank

I thought this out for a long time before going with the Aerop Catch system. I finally acquired them back in '09. I have been pleased with them in that you can't accidentally leave then undone as some who have the locking pins that stick through have had happen. The cover sticks up too high to miss it, and if you close it and don't lock it your are safe in that the pin is secured.
The only draw back is that this system is not a draw down type system. It merely holds the clip down and keeps prying eyes from opening the clip without the key. It works on either side panels or top panels. The very latest works like a Hartwell latch. For some info on my setup, check out my thread:

Go down to post 83 for explanation and pics. Here are some other pics of the setup.

As you can see in the second pic, the system can be set up as a from the bottom or a from the side holding setup. If you check their site AeroCatch® - new design of bonnet pin, available in locking or non-locking versions – see how it works.........you will see their latest setups.

My build will have two pins one either side, I'm in the process of making cover plates. Picture shows also Graham Hills GT40 with 1 central pin.

I used the 1/4 turn bonnet locks from an XY Falcon (same as Mustang) and glassed in some receptacles. It suits the era as well.
