Smiths Tach Wiring

Anyone have the pinout for the 6 pin plug for a Smiths tach part # RVC 2490-00C4 The paperwork I have doesn't match the way the wiring harness is made and the tach is not working has power and ground only don't know if there right. The tach shows up on the motec software and all appears to be setup so it should be functional. Wally

This is a diagram of the tach we use on our 427. The dip switches have since changed, but they normally come through set for 8 cylinders.

Hello Wally,

I had a very similar issue on my CAV.

Sent my tach to Nisonger for repair and they said it worked fine.

After checking the wire harness in the car I found it was wrong.

I rewired the ground and now it works fine.

Hi Bob Thanks that's the plug wiring I needed, Now all I have to do is figure out why it's not working. I didn't have Ground on pin 2 But sadly that didn't help . So now I get to crawl under the dash again ( finally had an hour today to check and install a ground wire ) and check for a signal on the signal wire. Any idea of how fragile these are could this unit have been damaged by having voltage on the ground side ??? Thanks Wally
