smith speedo to zf connectors

Hi, looking for options for mechanically connecting a zf to a smith speedo. Olthoff no longer makes a gear reducer for the application, and which 90 degree adapter at the speedo side can be used, thanks

What is the Smith speedo rev/mile?

Be aware if you have a standard angle speedo cable drive on the ZF they came in different variants; from VDO or Veglia Borletti, each available in gear ratios of 1:1 or 1.1:1 (depending whether your speedo was mph or km/h) and they have different drive ends requiring different cables.

Makes it easy then, use an electronic trigger and pickup on the drive shaft. There are converters that take a VSS signal and operate a mechanical speedo if your dead set on a particular period speedo or get the old speedo internals updated to electronic.

its for a -2 ZF, really would like to use the cable

Steve,

The VSS response was aimed at Doc.

There should be a number on the bottom of the Speedo face 1000, 1120 or 1200, this is how many revolutions the cable will make in one mile. Armed with that and which ZF angle drive ratio you have you can figure out what the required gear correction ratio is.
