Demist

Can people please post some pics up on how/what they've bonded in their demist vents please?

Currently deciding what to do

(yes before anyone keels over I have been working on the car, maybe 2018 might be the year lol)

Hi Brett,

May be to late, and they are expensive, but have you thought of a heated front screen, SGT do them.

Hi Brett,
Presuming you mean the screen vent, it’s a coincidence that I’ve currently got my dash out for a few minor mods. I glassed in a tube to accept a flexi tube from the heater unit, however to make the system work, the exit from the vent needs guide plates to keep up the air velocity – see attached pics.

Hi, not sure if this is what you look for. On the reverse side its two tabs, these slot into dash, and you only need four screws to hold it in place. Thus no need to fiddle with a screwdriver right next to the windshield.

Morton, have you added the Tabs?
mine doesn't have the tabs but holes where your tabs are.
as far as I know its an original ford zephyr item and quite rusty.

The ones with the tabs were from early MKlll Zephyrs, the later MKllls (facelift models) had the ones without the tabs.

Andy, are these plates the same as the ones listed in the original plans?

Hi Ryan,
I presume you're referring to the parts depictions drawings for the original vehicle, however I’ve not seen these listed<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com<img src=" /><o:p></o:p>
These are just some simple deflector plates up to fit below and original Zephyr grill, to keep the up the air velocity.<o:p></o:p>

I’m fiddling around with mine at the moment. I think I have the latter 65 Zephyr grill/vent. It’s a bit bigger than the dash opening I have (in both dashes, I have 2 of them that are different) and also has the curved up bit at the windscreen edge.

Does that sound right. Do I need to source a different vent?

Both1965 Zephyr vent panels have the same footprint. Most of the fibreglass molds out there are copies and show shrinkage everywhere, hence the fitting problems.
The later "facelift" grille which as you described, has a curved front and not strictly original.
I am rebuilding my dash top at the moment and made a new mold for the diffuser tray for hopefully a better fit for the flat fronted panel to the venturi. The trouble is getting the panel to flex slightly over the vent box duct - about 1-1/2" deep and 8" wide clearance.

I would like to get one of the other shaped grills. They don’t look as deep and the front section looks like it’s a different shape. Does not seem to have the curve in plan view or the curve lip in side view.

I am not too sure about the "straight" one in your latest photo - perhaps modified or aftermarket ?

Below is an old photo of two original grilles that I got and these are curved along the front and flat. The front tangs or tabs as Morten mentioned previously go into slots in the dash recess.
The crinkle finish one on top is now on Alistair's car.

I see.
I don’t mind the straight section, it’s hard to tell these days what is right. Most people will never have seen an original. What I do like is that it’s flat and follows and matches the shape of the dash nicely.

The “original” ford grill/vent that I have has a curved lip that bends up to meet the windscreen. I did find a photo of one installed in a zephyr or zodiac and it matched the shape of the dash and looked fine. Just looks odd on my GT40 dash I think.

I think I could scan and redraw the vent cover that I have, then get it laser or water jet cut.

That’s a job to get done after I fix the rest of the problems on my dash though.

The one I have is the same as this one, has the extra screw hole at the front. You can see the bend in the panel as it curves up to meet the window.

This latter 65 car seems to have the flat vent panel

Edit I’m not selling these cars they are just screen shots from the local for sale adds.
