Thermostat replacement

What a difference a thermostat makes! My car was starting to run a bit on the warm side (95-100c) with occasional gauge fluctuations telling me I had some cavitation air bubbles in the system. I wasn’t losing coolant but it did look a bit clouded. So it was time for a flush with new belts and thermostat. To make a long story short, I put in a Stant 45358 Superstat, which opens wider with, the safety feature (they tell me) that if it fails, it stays open. The car’s temp now hovers around 80c a full 10c lower than the 90c it would average. For fun, I put the old thermostat in some boiling water and it only would open about 5mm. So the pump had to fight that to cool the car. Anyway, lesson learned for me to change the thermostats a little more frequently than every four years!
