megasquirt.

Is anyone running the latest version of megasquirt? A programmable ecu is something I will be looking at in the very near future and wondered how reliable/user friendly these budget jobs are. Also are there any base/start up maps for them.

I have the latest and greatest on my race car (ROver V8 powered). 3.0 I think. INdividual cylinder timing and injector control.

MS is just as reliable as some of the best from Motec, etc. and just as powerful. My entire system was about $2k installed and tuned, and that included the motherboard and a wiring harness adapter.

Yes, MS gives you a very basic map which you then tune off of.

Thanks for that Jeff. The last car I built I used the Emerald cams ecu and that was not user friendly, I wasted two days trying to make sense of it only to find out that my lap top for some reason would not communicate with it. I found this on ebay MS2 MegaSquirt Engine Management System ECU 4cy Ford, Vauxhall, VW, Audi, etc. | eBay I made contact with the seller regarding supplying a unit for a 302 for running itb`s and distributorless wasted spark and this is his response.

Hi there,
I can indeed do you an ECU for that. Are you going to be fitting a 36-1 wheel, and using Ford coil packs?
If so then an MS2 ECU with 4 spark outputs to run batch fuel (bought from my site) would be £433 inc postage for that engine. A 36-1 wheel, sensor and bracket (suitable for an RV8 so may need modifying) works out at £108 inc postage.
All come with a 1m bare ended loom, comms lead and manuals.

I can show you where to get the coil packs from for around £36,
thanks
Phil

It all seems to be to good a deal at under £600.

Hi Bob,
If you’re looking at a suitable ECU coming from Norfolk, have a chat with Simon at Specialist Components (see below), who do a suitable ECU (I’m using their Typhoon ECU. Mine’s now up & running with a 36-1 trigger wheel, ITB’s and wasted spark ignition (Ford coils). Generally I’ve found it user friendly. Their software can be downloaded from the site, so you can see what it does

PM if you want a chat about it

Hi Bob,
what injectors do you have, are they the standard Bosch style
connectors or are they something smaller?
A loom works out around £200 inc connectors for a V8.
Air temp and coolant temp sensors are £35 for a pair.
A 36-1 wheel, bracket and sensor is £105, but this would be for an RV8,
so you may want to select a different size wheel and make your own
bracket for the sensor, see here:
ExtraEFI.co.uk HOME

An MS2 ECU to run it all is £415, plus £18 postage.

You will need a wideband lambda sensor to tune it with if you want to
do it yourself, these I dont sell but are around £180.
You will also need a TPS sensor, again I dont sell these but you may
have one on the ITBs.

thanks

Best to double check
I do not believe MS2 can do sequential - it has to be their 3rd generation stuff

Ian the engine is being built up as a screamer so there wont be any point in the refinements of the sequential version, batch fired will do the job . I was more concerned with reliability of these units but they do seem to have been around for a while now.

I have just installed the megajolt. Which is basically the same but for the ignition only. I have made the loom and toothed pickup etc , been installing over the last couple of months and eventually got round to firing it up for the first time yesterday. Initially I got the firing order wrong and had a few flame thrower moments but when got the firing order of the leads sorted out started first time on the default map. Seems very user friendly to setup but have only run for a few minutes on the default map. I could do with a more suitable map if you have one running successfully until I get mine finished and off to the Dyno.

IF I can help in any way just ask.

Cheers
