Smiths Tach & Mallory Dist

I'd like to use a Mallory distributor but my 1965 Smiths tach has an inductive pick-up, normally in series with the points. I can't find any Mallory reference to this sort of tach, so does anyone know if the opto-electric circuit in the distributor will energize the tach properly, or do I need a work-around?
Thanks

Re: Smiths Tach & Mallory Dist

It should work, I have that setup in my Tiger.

Re: Smiths Tach & Mallory Dist

Thanks, David. Do you use an electronic unit with the Mallory or just the standard coil?

Re: Smiths Tach & Mallory Dist

it should work fine, as the + lead to the coil should not change only the - side of the coil is connected to the opto circuit so the smiths can still read
the pulses fron the coil as with pionts
