Lucas flip switch threads?

I'm working on getting the dash together on my car, and hate the nuts that are used to retain the lucas flip switches. I"m curious if anyone knows off hand the threading used in the retainer nut. I'm thinking of machining a set out of aluminum and then painting them. Will greatly reduce chances of scratching the finish on the dash, as opposed to the standard 6 sided nuts.

TIA.

Re: Lucas flip switch threads?

Tom:

I used all Lucas switches and they came with round nuts with two small indentations to facilitate securing them. No hex nuts. Pictures posted on our build log. (Chuck and Ryans RCR Build)

I would secure them with the switch off center about 45 degrees. Once reasonably tight, I turned the switch, not the nut, to the vertical position to snug it down. Then we wired everything. No scratches on the painted aluminum panel!

Using a serrated lock washer on the back may also help secure them.

Got my switches from Finish Line, www.Cobraaccessories.com

Good luck!

Chuck,

Smart way to do final tightening. I've got both types of nuts with my switches. Some came from Finish Line, others came from England.

Thanks,

Tom
