Builder Basics

Usually when I look at videos on a site other than Utube, other videos will be displayed on there when the original is done. I found one that covered some basics in working with metal. To be specific about drilling holes. Turned out to be a great video. Taught me a lot of things I didn't know and a lot I had been doing wrong. I think this thread should be about some of the basics of metal working that will help the first timers like my self do a better job with what they have. Even though I am finished with the build, there are things I want to do that I can now do better. So I am going to post the first video or two for all to view. Even you old timers might learn a thing or two. If you have some info or video(s) that would help in building, these cars then post it here. Needless to say there are many different videos to watch. I have chosen just some examples of what is out there.

A method I use to remove broken studs in blind holes. Typically on a head or manifold.

Junk head to play with, it has a broken off 8mm stud, drilling can wrong if in position if you cant get the drill at the right angle. This method is a 100% success with out messing up threads.

Clean up stud and plug weld a large penny washer directly onto the stud, this will protect the surrounding area and stop the weld going onto the work piece.
Then get a very large nut and plug weld that to the washer. The heat generated down the stud aids in freeing up the stud. Never fails, I use this method on engines and big plant.

Great tip Bob.
I am at home nursing post op. for a hernia, so I have time to cruise the web. All I want to do is stimulate people to think about this stuff and decide if they can do it, and if so how to do it right and not cost an arm and a leg.
Here is a generic one. Everybody has their favorites, but at least everyone can use a primer gun. Can't screw this up too bad, and you will save some money if you do them right. Ask me how I know(the screw up, I don't know about the money yet). I don't own any of these products. just here for informational purposes and ideas.
