Ricardo Transaxle

I received this e-mail response from Ricardo concerning transaxles suitable for a GT40:

"Thanks for your enquiry re GT40 type transaxles.

I assume that you mean a synchro unit suitable for road, and occasional
track, use. We do have such a unit, but it is a modern day supercar
gearbox, and as such has a high level of refinement, and therefore cost. To
give you an idea of price, even when manufactured in quantities of 25-off,
the unit price would be over £10,000, without warranty. To obtain a Ricardo
warranty, the price would rise by approximately £3,000 per unit, and a
detailed development programme would need to be entered into. This would
allow a 12,000km / 1 year warranty to be given.

I realise that these are not typical figures for replica cars, but in our
line of business we cannot afford to release anything that is not state of
the art.

Regards"

Well, here finally is a photo of the Ricardo.

It will be interesting to see how much those sell for at Ford dealers.

Looks like it is set up for a modular bellhousing...I wonder what other engines it is used on.

Wow and I'm saving up for a Quafe LSD for my Renault. These things are WAY to rich for my blood.I would love to drive a 40 with one of these in it. Is this a sequencial unit?

The photo that Chris has posted above is a CIMA T750 gearbox built in Italy and has been designed as a straight replacement for the ZF. As Chris says, it is used in the Pagannini Zonda and one has been sent to Ford for evaluation for the Concept GT40. It was designed by Wanni Albertini who was present at the Sportscar Show at the NEC last May. More information on www.cimaingranaggi.it

I am reliably informed that the first running prototype Ford GT is equipped with a Ricardo developed transaxle. Whether it will make it to production, we will have to wait and see.
