I received this e-mail response from Ricardo concerning transaxles suitable for a GT40:
"Thanks for your enquiry re GT40 type transaxles.
I assume that you mean a synchro unit suitable for road, and occasional
track, use. We do have such a unit, but it is a modern day supercar
gearbox, and as such has a high level of refinement, and therefore cost. To
give you an idea of price, even when manufactured in quantities of 25-off,
the unit price would be over £10,000, without warranty. To obtain a Ricardo
warranty, the price would rise by approximately £3,000 per unit, and a
detailed development programme would need to be entered into. This would
allow a 12,000km / 1 year warranty to be given.
I realise that these are not typical figures for replica cars, but in our
line of business we cannot afford to release anything that is not state of
the art.
