Which Audi does 016 come out of

So call me dim. Which Audi does the 016 everyone refers to come out of - UK and Euro models that is?

Doubtless someone will tell me to use the search facility. But this is more conversational than burying your nose in a whole bunch of previous posts.

Regards, Alex.

Audi 5000 1986-1988
Audi 100 1989-1994

Audi changed the model name after the phantom acceleration incidents. Maybe "Unintended Acceleration" is a good thing for the
GT40 crowd!

Re: Which Audi does 016 come out of

I've been doing some more research on 016 gearboxes lately. I've found an Audi parts specialist in Europe who is helping me out...hopefully I'll soon have a lot of info on 016 part and serial numbers along with their corresponding car models. One thing I've been trying to figure out is if the turbo models (i.e., 5000cs) use a stronger version of the 016. Also, Neal, there are numerous serial number prefixes in the useful spreadsheet you've posted...where did you get that info?

One other curious factoid...apparently a Chinese factory was making 016 gearboxes, presumably under license to Audi or Getrag, in the mid-late 1990s. Do a Google search on Audi 016 and you'll find it.

Ok, then what car does the 6spd Audi/Getrag that GTD's Ray Christopher once advertise and also has been mentioned on several occasions on this forum? http://www.gt40s.com/ubbthreads/show...o=&fpart=1

Thanks,
If you are amenable I would like to see the results of your research Mark.

Not such a dim question after all judging by all the views.

Time permitting I'll post a new link with more accurate and recent info.

The 016 came in cars starting in 1977 with the Audi 100 (EU) and the 5000 (USA) as a 4 speed. The 5 speed came in the EU and USA in 1980 model year and was used up until 1991 in the 200 (USA and the EU). All of the turbo cars (5000T, 200) had the 016 (manual trans) and non turbo cars (100,5000) until 1988. In 1989 all non tubo Audi's used the 012, or 01A gearboxes.

The 016 was also installed in the porsche 944 and 924.

Re: Which Audi does 016 come out of

Hi alex,

In europe it comes from an audi 100 and 200, get one from a turbo model since they have better ratio's.

I live in the netherlands and can get them and have 1 (tonight another one), I can sell you one if you would like. And can get many others, I found a audi specialist scrapyard with approx. 50 016's and some 01e.

PM or mail me at bramus046(at)hotmail(dot)com

Greetz,

Bram
