Audi axles mated to Corvette C5 hubs

Thanks for everyones info on the Audi Transmision. I am planning on using the stock Audi inner CV and coupling them to Corvette C5 outer stubs. We have a small machine shop capable of cutting our own axle shafts and gears. I am considering taking some old ford 9 inch axles "or another donor axle" and machining them down for a center axle shaft to the audi/corvette CVs. What does everyone think. Machining pre-treated axles can be very hard on our tooling so I plan on going very slow with lots of coolant.

If you're going to get parts from used half shafts, make sure the old right hand side becomes the new right hand side.

Not being an expert machinist nor a metalurgist this is just speculation, BUT, should there be any concern about machining through grain boundaries if you are not annealing the parts first?
