Is this possible?

I was wondering if it is possible to take a transmission from a front engined car for example a Tremec TKO box and convert this to operate as a transaxle? I know you would need to have a transmission casing designed and cast (lots of cash I know) but is this possible? There seems to be a better range of from engined transmissions that deal with torque values in excess fo 600lb/ft and seeing as a Hewland box costs about £14-28K depending on which one you want budget allowing I was wondering if you could take something like the new BMW M5 transmission (with all of its clever integrated clutches) and convert it into a transaxle? (somebody told me that using this box with some uprated components would be fantastic as a transaxle as the way it is designed it is difficult to break it with high torque levels due to the way the clutches work - or something along those lines).
