GT40 Tech - Powertrain/TransaxlesTransaxles and driveline - don't dare post engine things here!
I need a quick answer about a 1978 924 transaxle.
The question is will it work for a GT40. I know it uses a touque tube.
I have very little knowlege of those cars.
Thanks in advance Dave
It's not a very stout transmission from what I know of them... I also believe that the clutch is up at the engine's flywheel which would give you no way to implement a clutch with factory parts.. Of course you could always work something out with a Tilton or other mfgr's hydraulic clutch release bearing that fits around the input shaft to the trans..

The 924 transaxle is based on the AUDI 088. The only good thing is the early unit (76-77.5) has a 3.44 ring and pinion. I have thought about what it would take to extend the pinion shaft so 5th gear could be used. Then it could be used in the 016 box. I haven't come across one yet.
The Porsche transaxles do not have a provision for the slave cylinder and do not have pilot bearing diameter machined onto the input shaft. I guess this could be done but you would need to use a bearing instead of a bushing because the machined end would not be hardened.
