RE: Audi 5000s diesel transaxle

Is anybody using the Audi 5000s diesel transaxle?
Is the gearing better?

Ron Thanks

I read the links. Am I correct that 1984 is the starting year? The trans I found is a 1981

Re: How can you identify a particular model?

I'm looking at a gearbox that says 016.301.103 on the bellhousing but I don't see anything that tells me what specific model (5N, etc) it really is. Is there something else I should be looking for?

That number you have there is just the part number for the housing.

The model designation is stamped on the flat area on the top of the bell housing. It is stamped in rather than cast.
