Does an M1 zf have a longer input shaft? If so please tell me what you have done to correct this.

Re: does an M1 zf have a longer input shaft?

To my knowledge, yes. When Safir P1116 was asembled the input shaft bottomed on the crank recess and wped out the thrust bearings in short order. I think the extra length is only .20/.25 but enough to cause a problem. Solution was to machine the end of the input shaft and re-machine the tapered end.

Re: does an M1 zf have a longer input shaft?

Thanks to you both, I am waiting on my McLeod clutch to show up and then I am ready to put the package together, I have already changed the shift rod and added the knuckle joint and box for the shifter. My best friend said he had read there was a difference but I can't seem to master the search engine on this site.

Here is a picture of it bolted to the block to align everything up. What bearing are you using for the shaft? Whats your opinion on the gearing of the M1?

Hi Jack

The length of your input shaft depends on the depth of your bellhousing, the pilot bearing is 12mm and will probably need a carrier machining
regards

Chris.

The drawing below is dimensioned for a 4" bellhousing

According to my records, the M1 input shaft protrudes 4.54" proud of the bellhousing mounting surface. That's actually about 3/8" shorter than the Pantera DS2.
