Chevy to Renault, whats needed?

I've finally decided on a Chevy engine for my project (mid mtd V8 Beetle)

This is a budget build, and I've just picked up a good (and cheap!) 305 chevy, this will get the car up and running the plan being to upgrade to a 350 as funds allow and swap headers etc between the two.

What parts do I need to mate this to my renault box? I've got an adaptor plate, but what flywheel and clutch etc do I need? With an eye to cost ideally I'm after scrap yard parts.

Many thanks

Owey (is that your name?)

I know the 302-renault uses a transit flywheel but not sure about the chevy. Try the lambo countach replica guys, I think they use chevy-renault combinations in their cars.

Thanks guys, I'll try Chris.

Oh and my name is Owain but has been shortened to Owey since I was a kid!

It depends on where your adapter plate is on the gearbox. I have one that is between the bellhousing and the gearbox, which makes for a very easy installation. I used the standard Chev bellhousing, starter, flywheel, and clutch.
The only thing you need extra is to have a new 'short' input shaft made so its a bit longer. but thats not a difficult thing and the box doesnt need to be split for that. Otherwise if you use the Renault bellhousing you will be needing a specialist flywheel etc etc .... There are several outfits in the UK who can supply all the parts you need for this.

thanks Ian, I'll mail Chris

Rambo, I hadn't thought about using a Chevy bellhousing and putting a plate between it and the Renault box, this would simplify things no-end, I'll have to look into this. Do you have any pics of your install?

thanks
