Twin Cluster shafts.

suppose if you were conversant with truck transmissions its not new. However it was to me so thought it was worth sharing. looks like a very similar arrangement to the 4 speed top loader
 
My recollection (faulty, at best) is that the SAAB 93/96 transaxle, in order to be as short as possible, used 2 countershafts. 1st and 2nd on one, 3rd and 4th on the other.
 
Vw/Audi/Ford/Mazda have three shaft transmission one input and two output shafts. it makes for a very short, but rather obese gearbox.
