zf-0 type plate

Does the ZF-0 come with a type plate? I have seen them on the zf -1 and -2 boxes but not on a -0.

Mine dosent have one ( zf-0) and this plate is supposed to have a 10 digit serial number starting with 1031 (according to ZF Germany)

There is a cast number in the rear gearbox which is 1031401002 but this might just be a casting or part number of the rear box housing.

I have asked ZF germany if they can identify what GT40 (or mantra or pantera, according to the people at ZF) this box was originally sold for.

Anybody with a zf-0 got a type plate on theirs? any photos of any zf-0's showing a type plate out there?

The only other information I have is 'NR - 135' stamped on the gearbox housing and end plate which I assume is number 135 of the original zf-0 production.

I await a reply from ZF after initial contact.

no idea Doc, will be interesting to find out though.
what will you do if the box turns out to be from something significant?

The later -0's seem to have the ID plates.
Not sure when they started attaching the plates ??
I am having trouble uploading the photo of 1031 000 002 #263 at the moment.
Would be interesting to find the history on them.

Peter, do you have 'Made in Germany NR - 263' stamped on the box and end plate?
Ryan, I will still put it in the car......
Ron knows about the photo upload issue and is on it.

From ZF....

"the numbers for the ratios stamped in the housing are fitting to
the very first series parts list ZF made for the GT 40.
Parts list number is 1031.001.001 and this was delivered
17 times to Ford for the GT 40.

Number 135 is most likely the true series number because before
Producing this parts list there had been at least 8 parts lists for prototypes.
The volume of the prototypes is not known / registered."

So about as close to an original as I can get...

No just the 'standard' ID plate which includes the ratios etc.
263 is stamped on the casing split lines.

Doc, I thought you already had a ZF gearbox in the car. Is this a second box? what is wrong with the original box?

If you have one surplus I might be interested.

Doc, I don't own this one nor recall where I collected the pictures from but probably eBay. I have a number of detailed pictures with casting numbers. If you email me I can send what I have if interested.

Best,
Kelly

Its the same gearbox, nothing wrong with it, in fact very happy. I was just trying to find out about the history of the box.... I haven't seen any type plates on any -0's and when the upload picture problem is sorted I will post pics of mine.

And.... Frank... all of you help is very much appreciated...but I'm still going with the original clutch slave set-up ;-)
