Wing Mirror Adjustment for IVA

To pass the IVA, you need to be able to adjust the driver’s side wing mirror without leaving your seat. The alternatives are installing electric mirrors (which I am not considering at this time) or leaving off the window for the IVA and then installing the side window later. However, I was wondering whether you could fit the side window and install a helicopter vent close to the wing mirror. Leave the vent hole without the moving part and locate the hole close to the wing mirror. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o:p></o:p>

Does anyone know whether a helicopter vent with the hole only would be acceptable for the IVA? Also, do they tend to be a little too small to get your hand through?<o:p></o:p>

Most people don't fit the windows.... same as headlight covers

Read the wording very carefully:

Therefore you don’t have to be able to adjust the offside mirror from the seated position. However it does then go on to say:

So some form of spring mounting base system is required on your final selection. Therefore you should be able to get away with a spring mounted external mirror that is not adjustable from the driver’s seats – like the old days……

The only mirrors that I know will do this are electric.
A large spring and plunger on the base performs this, giving 90deg locking.

Electric mirrors are good for parking, you can turn the left one down and see the gutter.

I was was not pro electric when I did my car because of the period thing but I am glade I did.

A builder of RCR GT40s in Kent has alerted me to the fact that the IVA now require "kite marked" side windows to pass the test. It would appear that they have tightened up on the rule and leaving windows out will cause a fail. This is hot off the press , not sure if it has been tested in the line of fire.

The builder in question ( Speedwell Replica Cars - Cobra | GT40 ) is about to start fitting the body to mine for IVA test in about 3 months ish. I believe he is about to put a recently completed RCR through the test and will update thread at that time.

IT IS NOT A GOOD IDEA TO POST "CRAFTY" TYPE SOLUTIONS IN AN OPEN FORUM LIKE THIS; THE IVA WATCH SITES LIKE THIS WITH EAGLE EYES.

If Terry is advising you that you need Kitemarked glass, then that is way out. Kitemark has not been recognised for many years by IVA/SVA. It needs an E mark. The rules have been there for some time.

I personally am planning to fir Chrysler Cross fire electric E marked Mirrors. All I would need to do is get the plastic E marked by the manufacturer.

The way the VOSA testers have to work is the 'literal' meaning of the criteria in the Manual.
I looked at the section on glass and it says that if glass is fitted then it must comply with the spec; it also says that if the side screen/glass is there it must be fitted and therefore will need to comply. It makes no requirement for there to be side windows fitted.

If there are no obvious screw holes and no window it follows there is no glass to comply. I had questions like this with SVA and I found the VOSA head office very reasonable and helpful, it may be worth an enquiry on the lines "are side windows compulsory?" There are many '7' and 'Atom' types that have no side windows and they pass.

Windscreens/sidewindows must be fitted and meet the CURRENT requirements, this is gt40 specific, VOSA are now saying the Cars were design to have windows and so must be fitted, Vosa,s words not mine,

I have not mentioned kitemarks, a small mistake on Johns part,
Exterior Door handles and door windows must be fitted,
The offside door mirror must be adjustable from the drivers seat,

I have fitted the appropriate door windows to a car that passed last week,
The only way to find out the real requirements, is to do the test,
or ask someone who has!
